FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM of one of the finest pathological atlases. Originally published in twelve fascicles between January 1833 and January 1838, Carswell's Pathological Anatomy contains fine hand-colored lithographs which he selected from his collection of water-colors and personally drew on stone. "These illustrations have, for artistic merit and for fidelity, never been surpassed, while the matter represents the highest point which the science of morbid anatomy had reached before the introduction of the microscope" (Osler). Garrison-Morton 2291; Heirs of Hippocrates 1501; Norman 408; Osler 2250; Wellcome II, p. 306.
