MEFFRET -- Sermones de tempore et de sanctis, sive Hortulis reginae. [Basel: Nicolaus Kesler, not after 1483].
Parts I and II (of three) in one volume, 2° (308 x 213mm). Gothic type, double column, initial spaces. (Corners torn in two leaves, marginal wormtrack, a couple of neat marginal tears, some staining and spotting, a few leaves lightly browned.) Contemporary blindtooled calf over unbevelled boards 2 brass fore-edge catches (missing one clasp, repairs to spine, slightly chipped at corners). Provenance: early marginal annotations -- Donaueschingen, Court Library (sale Sotheby's 1 July 1994, lot 213).
FIRST EDITION, and possibly the first book printed by Kesler on his own. Associated with Bernhard Richel from 1475, Kesler is named in municipal registers as a printer from July 1483. Usually treated as a single edition in 3 parts, it is more likely that each part was published separately. C 3961 (I and II only); Polain(B) 2654 (I), 2653 (II); Goff M-440.
