Lot Essay

With their unusual sinuous branches terminating in uraei, these wall lights relate to examples of French decorative bronzes made for the English market.
The celebrated marchand mercier Martin-Eloy Lignereux briefly worked before the Revolution. From his shop on the rue Taitbout, he sold work in the fashionable Egyptian style to George, Prince of Wales, later George IV.
