The baluster shaped and faceted body with waisted neck mounted with a leaf-tip cast rim and flanked by scrolling foliate handles issuing from bacchic masks, the waisted socle with fluted spreading circular foot above a square facetted base and foliate-edged plinth, the base mount possibly regilt

Lot Essay

Intriguingly called 'Russian stone', and famed for the clarity of the glass, mirror-like polish and skillful facetting, glassware from the Imperial Glass Factory was unrivalled during the Russian Empire period. The principal designer of the Imperial glass factory was Ivan Ivanov, who was responsible for most of the designs for coloured glass or crystal items executed for the Imperial family (N. Thon (ed.), St Petersburg um 1800, Recklinghausen, 1990, p. 395 and p. 398).
