Lot Essay

Charles Topino, maître in 1773.

This guéridon, inlaid with floral swags, figured among a few pieces by Charles Topino in the important Exhibition Grands Ebénistes et Menuisiers Parisiens du XVIIIe siècle which took place in Paris in 1955-1956 and relates to a few other tables by him. These include a guéridon sold at Christie's London, 14 December 2000, lot 165 and a further example sold in Paris, 21 May 1976 and illustrated in P. Kjelberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIeme siècle, Paris, 1998, p. 845, while another, formerly in the Collection of the Countess of Northbrooke, was sold at Christie'’s, London, 17 April 1980, lot 116.
