THE COLLECTION OF THE LATE PROF. DR WALTER AND MARGOT TUTSCHKA, VIENNA (Lots 604-786) Christie's Amsterdam is happy to present the collection of furniture, sculpture, silver, old master paintings and porcelain of the late Prof. Dr Walter and Margot Tutschka, Vienna. The story of this enigmatic pair of Amateurs des Arts begins in the hectic and chaotic forties of the last century. During these years of turmoil in Europe they met and were married. After succesfully obtaining his law degree in Vienna, Prof. Dr Walter Tutschka specialised in law pertaining to labour. He made a name for himself with his peers by writing a number of renowned standard works on the subject. In the late forties, after the war, Mr and Mrs Tutschka started what would be the passion of a lifetime: collecting antiques. The driving force behind the collection, with ofcourse the relentless support of his wife, was Prof. Tutschka who had a keen eye for detail and quality. The basis of the collection was laid in the late forties and early fifties with pre-dominantly Biedermeier furniture, sculpture and silver. Around the sixties their taste had evolved into an interest for Baroque furniture. Between 1975 and 1985 a number of impressive and ornate pieces were acquired, for example the Aufsatz Secretaires (Lot>>>>). After the death of his beloved wife Margot in 1988, Prof. Dr Walter Tutschka acquired a number of small items such as the fine collection of miniature furniture pieces (Lots>>>>). Prof. Dr Walter Tutschka died in September 2003 at the grand old age of ninety.
