Lot Essay

The panel illustrated on the right is painted in the French eighteenth century antique/arabesque manner with Jupiter standing on a lambrequined plinth beneath garlands suspended from a triumphal baldachino, that is incorporated in a 'picturesque' cartouche of foliated and fretted ribbons.
The smaller panel on the left depicts Minerva.
