Lot Essay

With their stepped block end-standards flanking a very open kneehole, these tables, although reminiscent of Gillows' production, are of different character. In some ways, they are reminiscent of the work of James Newton of Wardour Street, who employed similar rosette handles on his end-standard tables (G. Elwood, 'James Newton', Furniture History Society Journal, XXXI, 1995, figs.54-55).
