Boldly colored arms in the center beneath the shaded pink falcon crest, the well with flowering and fruiting vine in tones of gilt and the rim finely painted in grisaille with three different European townscapes between gilt and blue enamel peonies

Lot Essay

The Valckeniers were an important family in the Dutch China trade and ordered several services, of which this is the most elaborate. Adriaan Valckenier was Governor-General of the Indies 1737-41. See C.J.A. Jorg, op. cit., p. 303.
