the balance with steel beam and index and silvered circular and triangular pans, the latter stamped with an emblem and the initials BO, the fittd fruitwood case with manuscript signature and other text, owner's name J:Maxedor and each weight recess labelled in ink, with ten brass coin weights variously decorated, two ink-stamnped fleurs-de-lys and stamped border decoration, a sliding panel in the lid covering fifteen further weights and a drawer in the side of the case for eleven (of fifteen) further weights, the case closing with one (of two) brass hooks and eyes, the lid copiously decorated with various repeating patterns of stampings
