A Thai silver gilt tobacco pouch and a cigar case, 19th century
the pouch decorated with scrolling, entwined flowers and foliage and central emblem above the clasp, the cigar case with bands of floral scroll and central inscribed oval cartouche bearing the initial of the King of Siam -- 5¾in. (14.5cms) long max.

Provenance: accompanying embossed letter reading:
'The Phya ... presents his compliments to Capt. Henry Stratton commander of the S.S Packnam and by his acceptance of a photograph and a silver enamel cigar case with his Siamese Majesty's initial as a token of his kind service rendered to the mission in conveying them safe arrival at Bangkok on November 15th 1879. The cigar case is presented by His Majesty the King of Siam to Commander Stratton. Bangkok 30th Nov. 1879'.
Also enclosed with correspondance is a receipt to Capt. Stratton dated 19/2/1883 for a cheque for the sum of 50 pounds for a passenger ticket. (2)
