The rectangular fold-over top with rounded corners, opening to reveal a gilt-tooled green baize-lined playing surface, above panelled sides, on circular tapering fluted legs each with foliate collar and foot, the back legs pulling out and enclosing a games compartment, stamped variously WASSMUS
Closed: 29¼ in. (74 cm.) high; 34 in. (87 cm.) wide; 17¼ in. (44 cm.) deep
Open: 34 in. (87 cm.) square

Lot Essay

The firm of Wassmus Frères was established in Paris in 1810. Under the direction of Henri-Léonard, they received much recognition for their high quality furniture in the 18th century style. From 1853, the business traded from 146, rue du Faubourg-Saint-Denis and supplied furniture to the European royal houses. The business ceased in 1868.
