containing approximately one hundred and sixty pages with a collection of paintings in ink and colour on ricepaper and paper, the majority cut out and stuck down, variously depicting butterflies and insects amongst exotic flowers, figures of dignitaries and officials in elborate robes, torture scenes, soldiers, artisans and tradesmen including meat and fish sellers, carpenters and cobblers, studies of flowers, birds amongst fruiting and blossoming branches, individual studies of birds, animals and mythical beasts and Indian paintings of a cannibal -- each page 16½in. x 11½in. (42cm x 29.2cm), the cover page with bookplate for H.E.C Chapeau, dated Dec. 13 1867, the Persian cover painted and lacquered with scrolling floral design, (good colours, old wear, few pages with water damage).
