Lot Essay

Cf. John and Griselda Lewis, Pratt Ware, The Antique Collector's Club, 1984, p. 260, illus. p. 261 and anonymous sale; Christie's, New York, 20 - 21 January 2004, lot 661 for two similar examples, each with a second child at the mother's right. The present example lost this figure prior to decoration, although traces of where it was luted to the dress are visible beneath the paint and glaze.
