The frosted gilt chain fusee movement with pierced cock and foot, turned pillars, steel three arm balance and dead-beat verge escapement, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals, Arabic five minute divisions, blued steel beetle and poker hands, inscribed 'Thomas Todd,' in plain silver inner and outer cases

Purchased 1973.

The dead-beat verge differs from the ordinary verge in that the 'flags' on the balance staff are replaced by pallets with flat surfaces on which the teeth of the escape wheel come to rest. The inclined surface of the pallet provides the impulse as the wheel unlocks and the tooth slips past.
