A Continental rack clock with alarm
Unsigned. Circa 1750
The brass dial plate with foliate engraved cresting, engraved brass Roman and Arabic chapter ring with pierced steel hands, later minute hand, central alarm disc, front-swinging pendulum with verge escapement, the movement with ringed front-pinned baluster pillars, the alarm pulley mounted on the front plate behind the dial and striking on a small bell above the movement via three hammers, the brass rack plate secured to a fruitwood rectangular backboard with canted corners and ebony line-inlaid frame
