Sale catalogue of the library at Stourhead. "The library of the late Sir Richard...comprises probably the most choice collection of British topography ever formed, most of the works being on Large Paper and bound by the most eminent binders of the time" (Preface). Following the death of Hoare's son Richard, in 1836, the baronetcy devolved on his eldest half-brother, Henry Huge Hoare, the head of the Hoare banking house in Fleet Street. The sale realized £10,028.6.6. "The prices obtained for many of the books were exceptionally high" (Fletcher). PRICED WITH BUYERS' NAMES in a contemporary hand, ruled in red.
