KAHNWEILER, Daniel Henry (1884-1979). Editions de la Galerie Simon. [Paris: Galerie Simon], April 1925.

12o (135 x 107 mm). Woodcut device by André Derain on cover depicting two shells. (Inkstain on front-cover and outer margin.) Stapled as issued, in a modern red half-morocco slipcase. Provenance: TRISTAN TZARA (large inscription to the editor Albert Skira on back cover, signed and dated, together with surrealistic sketches, all in red pencil).

A beautiful association copy of the very important catalogue of early twentieth century artist's books. The front cover with the cancel stamp indicating the Galerie Louise Simon as the new owner. This is possibly Kahnweiler's own copy - almost all books are crossed out and bear the indication "épuisé" (out-of-print) and have a corrected price. Added are four loose leaves entirely manuscript mentioning titles and print run of four further magnificent books published by Kahnweiler (for example Glossaire j'y serre mes gloses, illustrated by Masson), all again crossed out. The back cover, inscribed by Tzara to Skira, is beautifully illustrated by the great surrealist artist, who himself indicates that the sketches are inspired by Balthus.
