Paris: Charles Saillant and Jean-Luc Nyon, 2 May 1775.

8o (190 x 126 mm). Contemporary mottled calf, smooth spine richly gilt, red morocco lettering piece (light wear to joints and edges). Provenance: Paul Lacroix ("Jacob Bibliophile" bookplate, his sale, Paris, Techener, 4 February 1839, lot 1923).

PRICED in a contemporary hand. Guigard states that the collection of Laleu, "secrétaire du Roi, maison et couronne de France" (Olivier), was rightfully considered to be one of the richest of its time; a large number of the volumes came from the Hoym, Rothelin and Pompadour collections. Built up over half a century, it numbered 6,000 volumes. The volumes from the Elzevir Press, listed in a special index at end, amounted to 178. The catalogue is very well compiled, with its "Table" and, in the preliminaries, a concordance of the lots with the numbers in De Bure's Bibliographie Instructive. "Dans le Catal. De Delaleu, on trouve le détail des piéces de théâtre comprises dans les recueils" (note in the Lacroix auction catalogue. Blogie, II col. 12; North 237.
