DIDOT, Firmin (1764-1836) -- Catalogue des livres rares, précieux et très-bien conditionnés du cabinet de M. Firmin Didot. Paris: Debure père et fils... De l'imprimerie de Firmin Didot, 1810.

8o (218 x 139 mm). (Some occasional light spotting.) Later 19th-century cloth-backed marbled boards by Durvand, morocco spine label, uncut (some rubbing, some light staining to cloth). Provenance: A.L. McLaughlin (bookplate).

PRICED, WITH BUYERS' NAMES AND SOME NOTES, in a contemporary hand. Didot, in addition to book collecting, was a typefounder and engraver, who, according to the De Bure's preface, decided to sell his book collection to better focus on his art as a typographer. Especially rich in the editiones principes of the Latin and Greek authors, Didot's collection also included the Abbé Rive's copy of the Gutenberg Bible that bought in at 1,000 francs and is now in the New York Public Library. Blogie II, col. 29; Brunet I, 1644; North 501.
