Two parts in one volume, 2o (310 x 215 mm). Etched portrait of the collector by E. Abot, 61 plates, including the 5 additional plates in gold and color. Contemporary blue half morocco, marbled sides, t.e.g., others uncut, original printed wrappers bound in (somewhat worn, rear joint loose). Provenance: J.R. Abbey (bookplate).

PRICED WITH BUYERS' NAMES in a contemporary hand. Copy on large and heavy handmade paper, complete with the separately printed index and list of prices realized, and the five extra photogravure plates in gold and color. Apparently the only copy recorded with buyers' names. La Roche Lacarelle, whom E. Quentin-Bauchert, in the preface, calls "une des gloires de la bibliophilie contemporaine," was a prime example of the French "cabinet" collector, selecting from the most important contemporary sales -- Brunet, Pichon, Firmin-Didot, and others -- no more than 540 items between ca 1860 and 1887. Blogie II, col. 188.
