Lot Essay

Lavielle was a student of Corot and debuted at the Salon in 1844 with Paysage de Fontainebleau which is now in the Musée des Beaux Arts in Marsaille. He mainly painted scenes from this area, concentrating on the effects of the changing light on the forest. Baudelaire commented on several of his works and was a great champion of the artist. His works are to be found in museums such as Grenoble, Alençon, Nantes, Moulins, Carcassonne, Narbonne and Rouen.
