Engraved frontispiece by Cole after the author, plate of the circle engraved on both sides and 84 plates, one folding, numerous engraved vignettes and diagrams (occasional light discolouration, a few plates lightly stained, tear in plate 78 with very slight damage to engraved area). Contemporary calf, double gilt fillet round sides (rebacked). Provenance: contemporary mathematical table written in ink on an endpaper -- 5 receipts concerning painting and staining in a later 18th-century hand on another endpaper -- William Hancock (pencilled signature dated 1871) -- Harold S.
