Provenance: Royal duplicate release stamp, dated 1837, on title-verso (according to a pencilled note on an endpaper, this copy was presented to George III by the author and sold by William IV's executors one month after his funeral).

FIRST EDITION of Paine's descriptions of houses in fifteen counties, from Surrey to Northumberland. As Fowler observes, 'Paine was one of the most skilful house planners of his period' and the publication of part 2 in 1783 together with the republication of part 1 marked the swansong at the end of his extremely successful career.
