A RARE PAIR OF PAINTED GREY POTTERY FIGURES OF STRIDING HORSES WITH SEPARATE SADDLES
EARLY TANG DYNASTY, 7TH-8TH CENTURY
Both figures shown striding, the heads well modelled with flared nostrils and expressive eyes below the pricked ears, one horse with hogged mane and head turned to the left, the separate saddle cloth with incised border, the other horse with head turned to the right and combed mane tossed to the left side of the powerful neck, the separate saddle cloth textured in imitation of fur, both figures covered with a white pigment and with traces of red pigment
