A Suit of Armor for a Ninja
Edo period (18th century)
Constructed of chain mail and plates lacquered black and comprising: a folding helmet fitted with a four-lame neck guard, the turnbacks applied with gilt-copper family crests of a Buddhist ken enclosed in a circle, the gilt-copper maedate of the same family crest; the facemask a black-lacquer hanbo with a simple throat guard of chain mail on fabric; the cuirass of variously shaped plates surrounding a central hexagonal plate, fitted with seven sections of tassets applied with rows of square plates and chain mail; the sleeves with splint-type plates on the forearms; thigh guards with true-scales; splint shin guards; bamboo storage box
