Lot Essay

Kashu studied under Kawai Gyokudo (1873-1957) beginning in 1907. His first painting to win a prize was Momiji (Maple leaves) at the 8th Bunten in 1914. He was a close friend of the Nihonga painter Ikeda Terukata (1883-1921).
