by John Makepeace, 1961, the rectangular top with two leather-lined sliding panels opening to reveal a compartment, above a long drawer flanked by two deep and two short drawers, on square tapering legs
This piece was commissioned as a sewing table from John Makepeace in 1961, a time when he was operating his cabinet-making business from his parents' home in Warwickshire. Makepeace subsequently set up a workshop at Farnborough Barn, Nr. Banbury, Oxfordshire in 1963, before moving to Parnham House in Dorset in 1976. A copy of the original bill accompanies this lot
