Later edition. The works of Macrobius, a fifth-century AD Roman philosopher, were of great popularity throughout the Middle Ages. "His neoplatonic commentary on Cicero includes, among many references to the pseudo-sciences, a geographic concept which is different from that of Ptolemy. The inhabited world north of the Equator is balanced by a southern continent and divided from it by water." The world map, on D2 verso reflects his beliefs, showing a large southern hemisphere identified as "Temperata antipodum nobis incocinita." Macrobius is best known for his Saturnalia which is included in this volume. BMC/STC Italian p. 401; see Sabin 43657 (for 1515 edition); See Shirley The Mapping of the World 13.
