Lot Essay

William Priest is listed as auctioneer, appraiser and upholsterer. Furniture marked with the Tudor St address ranges from c.1790 to mid-Victorian, and some labels describe the business as a 'Furniture Warehouse'. It is probable that Priest was selling secondhand items which he marked before disposal. The Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, FHS and W.S Maney and Son Ltd, Leeds, 1986
