The LNER (ex-NER) Class 01 4-4-0 locomotive and tender No.1870,
scratch built by P. Everton with external details including fluted coupling rods, brake and sanding gear, oil boxes and pipes, lubricator and pipework, reach rod and weigh shaft, riveting, scale cab and backhead fittings, steps, hand and lamp irons and lamps. Tender details include brake gear, pick-up scoop, tool boxes, watercocks, tank filler cap and vents, steps, hand and lamp irons. Finished in LNER pre-1928 green livery by L. Goddard -- 9.5 x 40.5cm. (3¾ x 16in.)

Lot Essay

This model represents one of the two 'racing' 4-4-0s built by the NER in the 1890s which also held the distinction of having the largest diameter coupled driving wheels (7ft 7in) ever to be mounted on a domestic British design.
