A fine Nepalese gilt-copper figure of Lakshminarayana
13th/14th century
Standing in samabhanga on the lotus pericarp, the figure cast half Vishnu and half Lakshmi, their eight arms radiating around their body, each hand with the prescribed attribute, wearing partly short dhoti and long sari, engraved with dots and long sashes falling at their sides and supported by flowers, bejewelled and set with red glass and turquoise beads, the naked upper body showing one breast of Lakshmi, the face with downcast expression, aquiline nose, smiling lips, elongated earlobes with different ear rings, three-leaf tiara and pattras and the two-fold hairdress topped with inlaid ornaments
