Lot Essay

Giocondo Albertolli (Bedano 1742-1839 Milan) is well known for his architectural decorations in stucco at the Palazzo Pitti, the Uffizi in Florence and the Palazzo Reale in Milan. His style is primarily based on Tuscan stuccowork of the 15th and 16th Century and has its precedents in classic Pompei, Herculaneum and Rome. Albertolli held the post for Professor of Design at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera until his retirement in 1812.
