Of tapering oblong section with canted corners and two applied scroll handles, supported on a tapering foot with engraved line motifs, with a hammered finish, marked under base, the base further engraved 'OMAR RAMSDEN ME FECIT', and scratched '2274'

Lot Essay

This vase is recorded in Ramsden's workbook as entry number 2274, corresponding to the number scratched under the foot. That example is shown without handles although Ramsden would happily have accommodated a request from a customer to make a change to the original design, as confirmed by Leslie Durbin, quoted by Eric Turner, (see op. cit, page 68).
