Lot Essay

This is one of a group of superbly hollowed, plain jade bottles which were introduced in the 18th century. The purity of the material, the thinness of the body and its good translucency are enhanced by the simple fullness of its shape and the lack of surface decoration. Likewise, well crafted plain bottles like this one, present a perfect balance of function, form and texture, at a time where undecorated bottles of high quality were appreciated for their naturalness.
