Lot Essay

The library table, designed in the classical manner inspired by the Doric Order of Vignola, has a patteraed frieze accompanied by flowered medallions instead of bucrania, while in place of dentils it is wreathed by a studded ribbon-guilloche in the fashion popularised by Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, London, 1807.
