THE TABLE LATE 18TH CENTURY, THE CHESS-PIECES ENGLISH, CIRCA 1840
Crossbanded overall in satinwood and inlaid with ebonised and boxwood stringing, the twin-flap top with rounded angles and centred by a reversible panel with a chessboard on one side, concealing a backgammon well, the frieze with a drawer and a simulted drawer to one side and two simulated drawers to the reverse, on square tapering legs and castors, 16 of the 32 chess-pieces stained red, the remaining 16 in natural ivory colour, in a later padded pine-wood box
