Lot Essay

Accompanied by A. Lange & Söhne Certificate dated 9 March 1994 and a copy from the registers confirming sale of the present watch on 23 October 1951 to VEB Uhren- und Maschinenfabrik Ruhla for the amount of DM 430.

It is interesting to know that this watch was sold during the epoch when A. Lange & Söhne had been expropriated by the communist regime of the former German Democratic Republic. On 1 July 1951 the various watch manufacturers located in Glashütte were merged as one company named Glashütter Uhrenbetrieb using the hallmark GUB (see the following lot).
