Lot Essay

The inscriptions are mystical in content.

The Arabic inscription on the 'figure' of 'Ali reads ana madinat al-'alam wa 'ali babaha/" I [Muhammad] am the City of Knowledge and 'Ali is Its Gate".

The Persian inscription on the camel reads dar yamani pish mani pish mani dar yamani/"My belief is beside me and I am beside my belief"

On the coffin muta qabl temuta/"Death is never very far".

The imagery relates the dream of 'Ali, when his coffin is led through the desert on a camel.
