Lot Essay

Vittorio Amedeo I, Duke of Savoy (1587-1637) assumed the title of King of Cyprus in 1632. The eldest surviving son of Carlo Emanuele I (Il Grande) (1562-1630) and his wife Caterina Micaela (1567-1597), younger daughter of Felipe II, King of Spain by his second wife Elisabeth, daughter of Henri II, King of France. Vittorio Amedeo married Cristina Maria (1606-1663), second daughter of Henri IV, King of France and Navarre. Known as Madame Reale, she was Regent of the Duchy of Savoy for her two sons Francesco Giacinto and Carlo Emanuele II.
