Lot Essay

Carlo Alberto (1798-1849), King of Sardinia from 1831 to 1849 was Regent of the Kingdom of Sardinia for one week after the abdication of Vittorio Emanuele I in 1821, Viceroy of Sardinia in 1829 and abdicated following his defeat by the Austrians in Novara in 1849. He married Maria Teresa (1801-1855), daughter of Ferdinando III, Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1817.
