G. ROBINSON, publisher
The Lady's Magazine, or Entertaining Companion for the Fair Sex

London: G. Robinson, July 1812. Vol. 43, no. 7 only, 8vo. (8¼ x 5¼in; 207 x 131mm), double column, engraved frontispiece (frontispiece creased, lacks 2 other plates called for on the title, some restoration at inner margins, old sewing marks), red half roan. Provenance: J.W. Goldman (binding and signature).

The news or numbered list of "Domestic Occurences" in the July, 1812 issue (pp. 336-39), refers to the king's madness, the sale of the Roxburgh Library for "above £23,000", Cobbett's release from prison, the death of two children mistakenly given arsenic by their mother, and an equally unfortunate event: "A fine boy, five years old, walking on Kennington Common with his father and mother, on Friday last, was struck on the breast by a cricket-ball, several yards from the bat, and killed on the spot," says the report which protests at how frequently cricket is played "in the public roads and foot-paths round London, and even in the very streets ...." despite such "imminent dangers". Not in Padwick.
