The Vickers 'Imperial' Gun

Amongst the fairly limited number of guns produced by Vickers Ltd (later Vickers Armstrong Ltd) a superior and rather rare model was the 'Imperial'. This was a double barrel sidelock and was offered in 12 and 16 bore. The lock mechanism employed a back-action coil spring side-lock similar to that designed by Baker. According to an article on Vickers guns by the late Geoffrey Boothroyd in The Shooting Times some years ago, gun No 1424 was presented (a customary gesture) by Vickers to an important figure in the lumber business who had supplied spruce to Vickers for use in aircraft production during the First World War. Normally the 'Imperial' model retailed at the now seemingly astonishing price of £25
