A Yildiz porcelain dish, Istanbul, dated AH1312 1893-4AD
Made for Sultan Abdul Hamid, decorated in coloured enamels and gilt with a central star-shaped inscribed panel, on a black ground reserved with floral panels and entwined scrolling foliage -- 9½in. (24cm) diam.

Lot Essay

The Yildiz porcelain factory was set up in Istanbul between 1890 and 1892. It was only commissioned to provide porcelain for the Sultan, either for use in his palace or as diplomatic gifts.
