FIRST EDITIONS OF BOTH WORKS. Ridinger was born in Ulm and studied there under Christoph Resch. In c.1716 he went to Augsburg, and, following a three-year residence in Regensburg, studied engraving in Augsburg under Georg Philipp Rugendas, establishing his own art publishing business there in c.1723 to sell his own work. The present works are normally found bound together (as Mennessier de la Lance notes); the first is a series of lessons in equitation and the second a series of cavalry exercises employing the lance, sword, and pistol, performed on a circuit depicted in the plan which prefaces the plates. Huth pp.38 and 39; Mennessier de la Lance II, p. 429; Nissen ZBI 3415 and 3416; Schwerdt III, p. 142.
