QIANLONG IMPRESSED SIX-CHARACTER SEALMARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)
The globular body raising to a tall cylindrical neck, supported on a splayed foot ring, applied overall with a cherry-red glaze enriched with splashes of lavender and blue, the glaze around the mouth rim thinning to a mushroom-brown tone, entering into the interior with a streaky soft-blue glaze, the base with a mottled-brown glaze covering the impressed reign mark

Lot Essay

Only one other vase of this size and elegant shape with a flambé glaze is known, sold at Sotheby's Hong Kong, 2 May 1995, lot 89. A smaller version (19.7 cm. high) with Qianlong mark, from the Salting Bequest, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, illustrated by Rose Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, London, 1986, pl. 3.
