Lot Essay

The sculptor Gustave-Joseph Chéret (1838-1894) worked in the second half of the 19th Century. He was the younger brother of the painter Jules Chéret. From 1887 onwards he was a member of the artistic management of the Manufacture Nationale de Sèvres. He also worked for the ceramist Joseph-Théodore Deck. A cast of the present vase was exhibited at the 1882 Paris Salon.
