Five collectors' seals, including one of Gong Ben'ang (1821-1874), and two of Lian Quan (1868-1932) and his wife Wu Zhiying (1868-1833)
Ode to the Pipa Player written in standard script calligraphy by Wen
Jia (1501-1583) mounted above the painting.
Signed: Maoyuan Wen Jia, with two seals: Wen Xiu Cheng Yin, San Jiao Di Zi
Dated gengzi year of the Jiajing era (1540)
Four collectors' seals including two of Gong Ben'ang
Five collectors' seals of Lian Quan and Wu Zhiying on the mounting
Note:
1. Inscription by Wang Jianzhang refers to Gong Weiliu, a close friend of his, obtaining Wen Jia's Ode to the Pipa Player. He painted this painting for Gong to accompany Wen's calligraphy
2. Gong Ben'ang was a descedant of Gong Weiliu. He was related to Lian Quan and a large part of Gong Ben'ang's collection went to Lian's studio after Gong died.
