A ROMAN MARBLE FUNERARY RELIEF
CIRCA MID TO LATE 3RD CENTURY A.D.
Rectangular in form, sculpted in low relief with busts of a bearded man and two women, their almond-shaped eyes unarticulated, with closed mouths and round chins, the bearded man to the left wearing a mantle over a tunic, an older woman at the center wearing a mantle pulled up over the back of her head as a veil, with a creased forehead and sunken cheeks, and a younger woman to the right wearing a mantle over a tunic, her wavy hair center parted

For a relief sculpted in similar style depicting a husband and wife with their two children compare the example found at Sveti Vrac in southern Bulgaria and now in Athens, no. 768 in Kaltsas, Sculpture in the National Archaeological Museum, Athens.
