An Edison class M Concert phonograph with Bettini attachment,
No. C3813, with two Bettini type D reproducers -3 1/8in. (8cm) and 2½in. (6.4cm) diam., 5-inch mandrel, electric motor and Grenet wet cell, swarf drawer and shaving attachment, in oak case, circa 1900; three Pathé Salon and four dictation cylinders; and a Bettini booklet, (damage to cylinders, Phonograph belts worn and slack), the base 20½in (52cm) wide. Lot Essay
The class M Concert phonograph was re-named 'Opera' in 1901 and was catalogued until 1907. It would have had an increasingly limited market after the introduction of moulded standard cylinders in 1902.
